Islamabad: Ambassador Andrei Metelitsa of Belarus met with Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Ahad Khan Cheema, to discuss matters of mutual interest, building upon commitments established during the 6th Session of the Pakistan-Belarus Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) in January 2023.
Minister Cheema warmly welcomed Ambassador Metelitsa and underscored the cordial relations between Pakistan and Belarus, emphasizing a commitment to bolstering bilateral ties. He commended the success of the 6th JMC session, which laid the groundwork for expanded cooperation across various sectors including trade, agriculture, health, science & technology, tourism, and investment in the industrial sector.
Ambassador Metelitsa expressed keen interest in elevating bilateral relations and stressed the need to enhance trade between the two nations, citing untapped potential. He proposed initiatives such as Government-to-Government (G2G) and Business-to-Business (B2B) interactions, trade exhibitions, and streamlining banking procedures.
Minister Cheema highlighted Pakistan’s agricultural machinery market and potential for joint ventures with Belarusian firms, especially in the production of tractors and harvesters. He also lauded Pakistan’s efforts to boost trade and commerce, as well as agricultural development.
Additionally, Minister Cheema discussed Pakistan’s capacity to export textiles, agricultural products, and surgical equipment to Belarus, while seeking collaboration in heavy machinery and plant manufacturing. He emphasized the importance of strengthening economic cooperation through the Pak-Belarus Joint Ministerial Commission platform.
