Microsoft Mistral Sign Multibillion Dollar AI Infrastructure Partnership

PARIS: (Web Desk) – Microsoft and French artificial intelligence company Mistral have signed a multibillion-dollar partnership aimed at expanding AI computing capacity across Europe and strengthening cloud-based AI services.

Under the agreement, Microsoft will gain access to Mistral’s Europe-based graphics processing unit (GPU) infrastructure to support the development of advanced AI technologies and enhance the delivery of its cloud and AI offerings across the region.

While both companies described the agreement as being worth billions of dollars, they did not disclose its financial value or the amount of computing capacity involved.

The partnership comes as demand for high-performance AI chips continues to surge, prompting leading AI companies to share or lease computing infrastructure to meet growing industry needs.

As part of the collaboration, Mistral’s AI models, including the Mistral Medium 3.5 programming assistant and OCR 4 text-recognition system, will also be available to Microsoft customers. These models can be deployed through Microsoft’s cloud platform or on customers’ own on-premises hardware.

Microsoft President Brad Smith said the partnership would allow European organizations to access advanced AI technologies while maintaining greater control over their data, operations and digital infrastructure.

The announcement also reflects Microsoft’s broader strategy to address European concerns over digital sovereignty, while Mistral continues to expand its AI infrastructure footprint following plans to invest €1.2 billion in new data centres in Sweden.
