Mexican—(Special Correspondent / Web Desk)— Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino to plan for the 2026 World Cup. The two leaders talked about getting ready for the huge soccer event.
President Sheinbaum shared happy news on social media after the meeting. She posted pictures with Mr. Infantino and the famous World Cup trophy.
She announced that the first game will be in Mexico City. The historic Azteca Stadium will host the opening match on June 11, 2026.
Thirteen total games will be played in three Mexican cities. Fans can see matches in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey.

Last week, Mr. Infantino also met with former U.S. President Donald Trump. They revealed the team draw will be on December 5th in Washington, D.C.

The 2026 World Cup is a joint effort by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It is a celebration of soccer across North America.
