Met Department Denies Extreme Cold Wave Reports
No Severe Cold Wave Expected, Authorities Urge Caution
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Meteorological Department has dismissed reports of an impending extreme cold wave later this month, urging the public not to rely on unverified social media claims. Officials clarified that no unusually severe cold spell is expected between January 16 and 25, and there is no forecast of temperatures falling below zero in the plains.
Authorities warned that misleading weather predictions circulating online could create unnecessary panic. They emphasized that citizens should only follow updates issued through official channels. Routine winter conditions are expected during this period, with no extraordinary cold event anticipated.

Meanwhile, Karachi is experiencing colder and drier weather, with temperatures dropping to single digits. The minimum temperature was recorded at 8°C, coupled with 40% humidity, and the cold spell is expected to continue for a few more days.
In Lahore and other districts of Punjab, dense fog has prompted the Provincial Disaster Management Authority to issue a high alert until January 16. Cold winds and dry conditions are likely to persist, with temperatures expected to decline slightly over the coming days.
