Medical and Dental Colleges Stopped From Filling Vacant Seats

PMDC adjusted merit criteria for vacant seats in private medical and dental colleges.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) has instructed medical and dental colleges to refrain from independently filling their vacant seats. In a directive addressed to college principals, PMDC Registrar Dr. Shaista emphasized that no medical or dental institution is permitted to fill these vacancies on their own.

According to the letter, admitting universities are mandated to oversee admissions across all colleges within their respective provinces/regions, adhering strictly to the criteria outlined in Section 17(5) of the PMDC Act, 2022.

Dr. Shaista underscored the importance of complying with this mandate, noting that admissions granted under PMDC’s amnesty would only be recognized if facilitated by the admitting university.

Recently, PMDC adjusted merit criteria for vacant seats in private medical and dental colleges. Additionally, the passing marks for MDCAT were lowered to 50% for MBBS and 45% for BDS. Liaquat Medical University Jamshoro was designated as the sole institution authorized for admissions in Sindh, with applicants charged Rs4,500 for admission fees and an additional Rs7,000 by the testing agency for the entrance exam.
