May 9 suspects who were granted bail by SC arrested shortly after release
These individuals were initially booked in connection with the May 9 violence case registered at the New Town Police Station.
Rawalpindi: Five suspects involved in the May 9 violence, who were recently granted bail by the Supreme Court, have been rearrested under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960.
The suspects, namely Owais, Saifullah, Nasrullah, Kamran, and Waqas, were apprehended shortly after their release from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi last night. The Rawalpindi deputy commissioner issued the arrest orders under the 16 MPO, following which the suspects were taken back into custody.
These individuals were initially booked in connection with the May 9 violence case registered at the New Town Police Station. The incident occurred amid protests across the country following the arrest of Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case.
Last week, a three-member bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi, and Justice Mussarat Hilali, had granted bail to the five suspects. During the hearing, Justice Mandokhail remarked that the authorities were targeting those involved in political rallies rather than apprehending the “real terrorists.”

The apex court approved their bail upon the submission of surety bonds worth Rs50,000 each and directed the trial court to deliver a verdict without any external influence.
The prompt action taken by the authorities to ensure the accountability of individuals involved in the violence showcases the commitment of the judiciary to uphold law and order in the country.
