May 9 events ‘regrettable’, demands inquiry,Fawad

IHC bars authorities from arresting Fawad  till May 17,

ISLAMABAD – PTI senior vice president Fawad Chaudhry said on Tuesday night the events of May 9 were “extremely regrettable” and whoever was involved, whether from the PTI or not, should be investigated and brought to justice.

Talking to the media after he came out of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), he said as a spokesperson of the PTI, he condemned the attacks on Lahore’s Corps Commander House and defence installations. “Every person who belongs to Pakistan and Pakistan Army was sad at what happened on May 9,” he added.

He went on to say that he belonged to district Jhelum, adding that his district was a residential place of army martyrs. “None of our graveyards is without martyrs’ graves,” he added.

Mr Chaudhry said whoever belonged to Pakistan had cordila relations with Pakistan Army, adding that we had to formulate our policy keeping this in mind. “If police want to arrest me, I am here to court voluntary arrest,” he added.

Earlier, in a dramatic turn of events, a team of the Islamabad police tried to capture Mr Chaudhry moments after he left court on being granted bail by the IHC in the illegal arrest case.

As the PTI leader was about to head home, a police vehicle stopped right in front of his car, prompting him to run for safety towards court. Visuals of Fawad Chaudhry’s dash towards court reflected the apathy of police as he once slipped and seemed gasping for breath.

Hours earlier, IHC accepted the bail plea of PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry and ordered his immediate release two-day protective bail in all cases and barred the authorities from arresting him from within the limits of the federal capital till May 17.The court also directed the law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) not to arrest Mr Chaudhry in any case for the next two days. The judge declared the PTI leader’s arrest illegal.

,The former information minister shortly after being released on bail rushed back to the court to evade the possible arrest as the police made a move to detain Fawad as he was leaving the IHC.
