Zain Qureshi, the son of former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, expressed optimism on Monday that his father would be released from prison after Eidul Azha.

“I am hopeful that he will be released from jail after Eid,” Zain, who celebrates his second Eid without his father, told reporters in Multan following Eid prayers.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi was arrested in August last year in the Cipher case. Despite being granted bail months later, he was rearrested subsequently.

Both Qureshi and Imran Khan were acquitted in the Cipher case on June 3 by the Islamabad High Court, overturning their previous convictions awarded by the trial court.

Zain Qureshi, who serves as PTI’s Deputy Parliamentary Leader in the National Assembly, reiterated PTI’s call for an investigation into the Feb 8 general elections and the May 9 events, stating, “We demand the release of our detained workers.”
