ISLAMABAD: Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado has reacted to the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro, saying that the time has come for the establishment of a people’s government in Venezuela.
In an open letter addressed to the people of Venezuela and shared online, María Corina announced her support for opposition leader Edmundo González as the country’s new leader. She said that Maduro would now have to face international justice.

She stated that peace would return to Venezuela, political prisoners would be released, and that González had achieved a genuine victory in the 2024 elections. María Corina added that Edmundo González should immediately assume his constitutional responsibilities.
It is worth noting that the United States launched an attack on Venezuela on Saturday, after which US Delta Force troops reportedly detained President Maduro and his wife from the presidential palace.
