Malaysia’s PM Concludes Three-Day Visit to Pakistan, Highlights Personal Significance

ISLAMABAD – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim departed Pakistan on Friday, wrapping up a three-day state visit which he described as holding “great personal significance.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who had welcomed Ibrahim upon his arrival on Wednesday, also bid him farewell at the airport. He was joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, members of the federal cabinet, and senior officials.

During his visit, Ibrahim, along with a high-level delegation of ministers and senior officials, engaged in a series of high-level meetings. This included a one-on-one discussion with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, delegation-level talks, and productive conversations with President Asif Ali Zardari.

Following his departure, Ibrahim shared on his X timeline that his meetings with Shehbaz Sharif and President Zardari, along with discussions with key industry representatives, resulted in “productive outcomes” across a broad range of mutual interests. He emphasized that these interactions reaffirmed the commitment of both nations’ leadership to strengthening bilateral relations.

The two countries signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to bolster cooperation in various sectors. Notably, Pakistan will export $200 million worth of Halal meat and 100,000 tonnes of Basmati rice to Malaysia.

Ibrahim highlighted that future cooperation would also expand to areas such as trade and agricultural technology, with increased focus on meat, rice, and palm oil imports. Additionally, the two nations plan to collaborate on skilled labor development in critical sectors like artificial intelligence (AI), digital technologies, and semiconductors.

During the visit, Prime Minister Ibrahim was awarded the Nishan-i-Pakistan by President Zardari in a special investiture ceremony. He also received an honorary PhD from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), where he delivered a public lecture.
