Majority of Federal Cabinet supports imposition of Governor’s Rule in KP

A number of cabinet members supported this option, believing it necessary to restore order and governance in the region.

ISLAMABAD: In a recent meeting of the federal cabinet, a significant majority expressed support for the imposition of Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) due to the province’s deteriorating political situation. The discussion, which took place during a cabinet session on Wednesday, saw input from key officials, including the Attorney General and the Minister for Law, who briefed the cabinet on legal options related to the provincial government’s actions.

According to sources, the cabinet thoroughly debated the situation in KP, with several members advocating for the imposition of Governor’s Rule, which would see direct control by the federal government over the province. The discussion centered on the recurring challenges faced by the provincial government and the legal grounds for such a move under the Constitution.

It was argued that, given the ongoing political and security challenges in the province, including repeated attacks on the federal government, the imposition of Governor’s Rule could be constitutionally justified. A number of cabinet members supported this option, believing it necessary to restore order and governance in the region.

The cabinet also proposed consulting with opposition parties such as the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), and other like-minded parties before making a final decision. The sources indicated that a decision on the matter would be made after thorough consultations with all relevant stakeholders.

Governor of KP denies knowledge of Governor’s Rule or PTI Ban

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Faisal Karim Kundi, has stated that no one has informed him about the imposition of Governor’s Rule in the province. Speaking to the media, Kundi also expressed that he was unaware of any plans to impose a ban on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He recalled that political parties have faced bans in the past, including the Pakistan Peoples Party, but such measures have never led to the permanent dissolution of a party.
