Macron Urges Calm in Iran-Israel Conflict, Calls for Resumption of Nuclear Talks
Oman Cancels U.S.-Iran Nuclear Talks Amid Escalating Tensions
Greenland – French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday expressed hope for a swift de-escalation in the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, urging both sides to avoid further unrest and calling for the resumption of nuclear negotiations with Tehran.
“I hope that the coming hours will bring calm and a road forward for discussion, to avoid any escalation of nuclear capabilities, acquisition of nuclear capacities in Iran, and to prevent any unrest in the region,” Macron stated during a visit to Greenland.
His remarks came amid ongoing hostilities between Iran and Israel, which entered their third day on Sunday. Israel launched airstrikes targeting military sites and fuel depots in Iran, while Tehran responded with retaliatory missile strikes.
Despite the heightened tensions, Macron reiterated his commitment to dialogue, revealing he had spoken with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi a day earlier to advocate for immediate talks. He also discussed the situation with U.S. President Donald Trump, noting that both leaders share a common vision for diplomacy.
“We will have the opportunity, in a few hours, to revisit this matter with G7 leaders,” Macron added, referencing the G7 summit taking place from Sunday to Tuesday in Canada.
The call for renewed diplomatic efforts follows a series of five rounds of nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran since April, aimed at reviving a nuclear deal to replace the 2015 accord abandoned by Trump during his previous term. A sixth round of negotiations was scheduled for Sunday but was canceled by host country Oman amid the escalating conflict.

The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, with growing concern over the potential for broader regional instability.
