M-1 blocked by PTI supporters protesting against alleged rigging
PTI workers are accusing the Returning Officers (ROs) of alleged rigging.
Peshawar: M-1 Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway stands at a standstill as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protestors continue to arrive and the protest gains momentum. A blockade is reportedly halting all traffic, effectively sealing off access from Peshawar and impeding vehicles beyond the Rashakai Interchange.
PTI workers are accusing the Returning Officers (ROs) of alleged rigging, and are threatening that they will block the motorway completely if the result is not given as per Form 45.
The protest, which is being reportedly led by PK-82 candidate Kamran Bangash, has effectively paralysed the motorway, leaving commuters stranded and disrupting the flow of traffic in the area. As tensions mount, the implications of this protest reverberate throughout the region.
With the highway rendered impassable, the situation remains fluid, with authorities and protestors facing off each other.
Hundreds of paramilitary personnel of Rangers and Frontier Constabulary (FC) are also present on the motorway at the site of the protest.
