Live: England Struggles to Keep Pace with Pakistan in Multan Test

England reaches 154/2, trailing by 402 runs after Pakistan's commanding first innings.

On the third day of the inaugural Test match between Pakistan and England in Multan, England finished 30 overs with a score of 154/2, still trailing Pakistan’s impressive first-innings total of 556 by 402 runs.

At the crease, Ben Duckett and Joe Root were leading England’s response. Duckett made a quick 34 runs off 28 balls, while Root contributed 41 runs from 66 deliveries. England’s run rate of 5.13 indicated their aggressive strategy to score quickly while maintaining control. Earlier, England lost both Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope, with Crawley being dismissed by Naseem Shah after scoring 51 runs.

Leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed bowled 9 overs but has yet to claim a wicket, while Naseem Shah has taken 1 for 30 in his 8 overs. Duckett displayed an attacking style, hitting three boundaries off Abrar in a single over, highlighting England’s bold approach, but also increasing the risk of losing quick wickets.

With Pakistan holding a commanding position due to their substantial first-innings score, the onus is on England to post a significant total to remain competitive in this Test match. While the match is delicately poised, England must put in a strong effort to avoid a collapse against Pakistan’s formidable bowling attack.
