Libya Army Chief Killed in Ankara Plane Crash

Five people, including Libya’s Chief of Staff, were on board the plane.

ISLAMABAD: A plane crash in Türkiye has claimed the lives of Libya’s Chief of Staff along with four companions. The wreckage of the aircraft was found in the Hemana district on the outskirts of Ankara.

According to Türkiye’s Interior Minister, the aircraft departed from Ankara Esenboğa Airport for Tripoli at 8:10 pm and lost contact with air traffic control at 8:52 pm.

Turkish media reported that after experiencing a technical malfunction, the aircraft attempted to turn back toward Ankara but crashed before it could land.

Five people, including Libya’s Chief of Staff, were on board the plane. Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh has confirmed the death of the army chief.

Reports stated that Libyan General Mohammed Ali Al-Haddad had been on an official visit to Türkiye, where he met with the Turkish Minister of Defense. The crash occurred while he was returning from Türkiye.

Following the incident, Türkiye temporarily closed its airspace and placed search and rescue teams and security agencies on high alert.
