Law and Justice Committee Meets to Discuss Key Bills and Ministry’s Performance”
The Standing Committee on Law and Justice held its second meeting today at Parliament House in Islamabad, chaired by Ch. Mahmood Bashir Virk, MNA. The meeting began with a recitation from the Holy Quran and proceeded with the agenda.
The committee received a briefing on the working of the Ministry of Law and Justice and its attached departments. However, due to time constraints, the briefing was deferred.
The committee considered several bills, including:
– The Civil Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2024 (Government Bill), which was unanimously recommended for passage by the Assembly after detailed deliberations.
– The Legal Aid and Justice Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2024 (Government Bill)
– The National Accountability (Amendment) Bill, 2024 (Ordinance No VI of 2024) (Government Bill)
– The Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2024 (Article 25) moved by Dr. Nafisa Shah, MNA
– The Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2024 (Article 51 & 106) moved by Mr. Naveed Aamir Jeeva, MNA
After detailed discussions, the committee deferred consideration of the last four bills.
The meeting was attended by several honorable members/MNAs, including Mr. Changaze Ahmad Khan, Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, Dr. Nafeesa Shah, and others. The Minister for Law and Justice and the Secretary of the Ministry of Law and Justice also attended the meeting, along with their staff.
