Latest LDC have been badly affected by climate change: PM Shehbaz

Doha: (Web Desk) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) have been badly affected by climate change, post-pandemic and geo-strategic disruption in food and energy supply chains and these global events have left them vulnerable.

According to the twitter, the premier said he would share Pakistan’s perspective on the socio-economic challenges facing Least Developed Countries in Asia and Africa. He said the LDCs would be better served by putting welfare of people at the center of public policy. The premier is in Doha to participate in 5th United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries.

Earlier, PM Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Doha on a two-day visit to participate in the conference. The five-day conference will consider steps for accelerating sustainable development in the LDCs and helping them to make progress on road to prosperity. On the sidelines of the Conference, the prime minister will also hold bilateral meetings and interact with participating leaders and heads of delegations. Pakistan has been playing a leading role at UN platforms to amplify the collective voice of the Global South to promote sustainable development worldwide.

Furthermore the premier’s participation in the Conference will signify Pakistan’s support and solidarity with the Least Developed Countries in their quest for social progress and economic prosperity.  At the conference, the leaders will mobilize additional international support measures and action in favor of LDCs and agree on a renewed partnership between LDCs and their development partners. PM Shehbaz Sharif has reached Doha, Qatar on a two-day visit, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Sunday.

Moreover using her Twitter handle, she said the Prime Minister will attend the fifth session of the United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries starting today. The minister said that the Emir of Qatar will give a reception in honor of the participating heads of state and prime ministers in the conference. PM Shehbaz Sharif will attend the reception of the Emir of Qatar, she said. Marriyum said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will deliver his address to the conference on March 6.

Meanwhile Pakistan has been playing a leading role at UN platforms to amplify the collective voice of the Global South to promote sustainable development worldwide. During 2022, in its capacity as Chair of the Group of 77 and China, Pakistan actively supported the efforts of the LDC Chair and Qatar in securing the adoption of the Doha Program of Action for the Least Developed Countries by consensus and its endorsement by the UN General Assembly.

As per details “The Prime Minister’s participation in the Conference will signify Pakistan’s support and solidarity with the Least Developed Countries, in their quest for social progress and economic prosperity,” it was added. The spokesperson further said that Pakistan supported reinvigorated global partnerships based on effective means of implementation, including within the framework of South-South Cooperation, to pursue the UN 2030 Development Agenda and the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
