Lahore Officially Approves Basant 2026, Safety Guidelines Issued

Only registered sellers will be allowed to sell kite materials.

LAHORE (Web Desk) – The Lahore administration has officially permitted the celebration of Basant 2026, issuing a notification through the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore.

According to the notification, kite flying will be allowed on February 6, 7, and 8, 2026. Only approved and standard kite-flying materials will be permitted during the festival. Manufacturing and trading of kite materials will be allowed from December 30, 2025, to February 8, 2026, while sales to the public will be permitted from February 1 to February 8, 2026.

Only registered sellers will be allowed to sell kite materials. Registration for manufacturers, traders, and sellers began on December 29, 2025, and can be completed through the e-Biz app or via basant.punjab.gov.pk.

The notification maintained a complete ban on the use of “Charkhi” (kite reels) and prohibited metallic wires, nylon, plastic, or sharp strings. Only cotton threads meeting specified standards will be allowed. Kite sizes and limits for kite and spool weight have also been fixed.

Authorities instructed that all registered sellers display their certificates prominently and maintain detailed records of stock, sales, and material movement.

The administration stated that these measures aim to ensure a safe Basant celebration while protecting the lives and property of citizens.
