Lahore HC Rejects Imran Khan’s Request in Shehbaz Defamation Case
Lahore HC Rejects Imran Khan's Challenge to Written Testimonies in Defamation Case
LAHORE: In a significant legal development, the Lahore High Court has ruled that Imran Khan’s request to challenge Shehbaz Sharif’s defamation lawsuit is inadmissible. The ruling came in a case where Shehbaz Sharif, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), filed a defamation suit against the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan.
The case was heard by Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal, who announced the decision on Tuesday after reserving judgment the day before. Imran Khan had filed a request seeking to declare the trial court’s decision allowing witnesses to submit written testimonies in the defamation case as invalid. Khan argued that the witnesses should be required to testify in person in the courtroom, rather than submitting written statements.
Imran Khan’s petition asked the court to annul the trial court’s decision that permitted written testimony from witnesses. However, the Lahore High Court deemed the petition inadmissible, ruling that the trial court’s order allowing written statements would stand.
