Lahore Chokes Again: City Tops List of World’s Most Polluted Cities
Lahore-(Tahir Chuhdary)-Lahore’s residents experienced a fleeting sense of relief as smog levels decreased significantly over the past few days, sparking hopes that government measures were paying off. However, the city’s air quality took a drastic turn for the worse on Thursday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) soaring to 457, earning Lahore the unfortunate title of the world’s most polluted city.
Karachi, with the AQI recorded at 222, was third on the list.
The minimum temperature in the port city was recorded at 19 degrees Celsius while the Met Office predicted that it would remain hot and dry during the day, with the maximum temperature reaching 33 degrees Celsius later in the day.
Winds were blowing from the north-westerly direction at the speed of eight kilometers per hour while the level of moisture in the air was recorded at 78 per cent.
Cold, dry weather forecast for most parts of country
On the other hand, the Met Office predicted cold and dry weather for most parts of the country, except Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and the upper areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), where the office said rain was expected in the evening.
