Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court Extends Interim Bails for PTI Leaders in May 9 Cases

The unrest followed the arrest of Imran Khan from the Islamabad High Court premises in the Al-Qadir Trust case on May 9 of the previous year.

LAHORE: The Anti-Terrorism Court in Lahore has extended the interim bails of PTI founder Imran Khan’s sisters, leader Omar Ayub and several other party leaders until July 24 in connection with the May 9 cases.

The court mandated the investigation of all accused in the Askari Tower case. PTI leaders Fawad Chaudhary, Asad Umar, and Musrat Cheema were among those who appeared and completed their attendance.

The unrest followed the arrest of Imran Khan from the Islamabad High Court premises in the Al-Qadir Trust case on May 9 of the previous year. PTI supporters staged nationwide protests, which saw violent incidents including the killing of individuals in Model Town, Lahore, the burning of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) office, and the arson of military, civil, and private installations.

Protesters also stormed the Corps Commander’s residence in Lahore, known as Jinnah House, and broke down a gate at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. In response, law enforcement arrested 1,900 individuals involved in the riots, vandalism, and arson. Cases were subsequently registered against Imran Khan and his party leaders and workers.
