Kundi asks PM to stop limits on wheat travel between provinces.
KP warns that Punjab's wheat transport ban threatens food supplies and violates constitutional rights.
KP – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – A top food official from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has urgently written to the government of Punjab. The letter asks them to lift a ban on sending wheat and flour. He warns that this restriction is breaking the supply chain and causing prices to rise in KP.
The letter explains that KP does not grow enough wheat to feed its own people. The province needs to bring in about 14,500 tonnes of wheat every single day from Punjab to meet its basic needs. The current blockade has severely slowed this vital flow, creating a threat of food shortages and unstable market costs.
While Punjab recently allowed a small shipment of 2,000 tonnes of flour to enter KP, officials there say this amount is not nearly enough. They state that this limited quota falls far short of what people actually need to eat. KP’s government is frustrated, noting that despite sending many official messages to Punjab, the ban remains firmly in place.
The letter points out that this situation goes against Pakistan’s Constitution. The constitution specifically ensures the free movement of goods and trade between all provinces. This issue was even discussed in a high-level meeting led by the Prime Minister, who stressed the importance of smooth movement for wheat.
The association representing KP’s flour mills has raised a serious alarm. They warn that their wheat supplies are running out fast. If the restrictions are not lifted immediately, a major shortage of wheat and flour could hit the province very soon.

Just last week, KP’s Chief Minister also strongly criticized the ban. He called it an attack on the rights of the people in his province. He directed his food department to demand that Punjab remove all restrictions right away, stating that political differences should not be used to deprive people of food.
Officials confirmed that KP needs about 5.3 million tonnes of wheat each year. However, the province can only produce 1.5 million tonnes on its own. This means the vast majority of its food supply must come from other regions, primarily Punjab.
