Industrial Growth to Boost Economy, Jobs: CM

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has announced that the province will supply low-cost electricity to industries through its own power generation projects, aiming to promote industrial growth and economic stability.

Chairing a meeting of the KP Transmission Line and Grid System Company on Sunday, the chief minister reviewed progress on transmission line and hydropower projects and directed authorities to ensure their timely completion. He also instructed officials to complete the feasibility study for the proposed KP Power Distribution Company within six months.

The chief minister said that industrial promotion would lead to economic stabilization and create employment opportunities. Officials informed the meeting that completion of ongoing projects would add around 800 megawatts of electricity to the system.

It was also shared that a 120-kilometer transmission line is being laid from the Matiltan powerhouse to Chakdara, while the Daral Khwar hydropower project has been completed and made operational. Overall, seven hydropower projects with a combined capacity of 224 megawatts have already been operationalized.

The Matiltan Hydropower Project, located in the Gorkin Matiltan area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has a planned capacity of 84 megawatts. Sponsored by the KP government, the project is part of broader efforts to expand renewable energy generation and strengthen the province’s power supply.
