PESHAWAR — Following a statement by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan urging Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to step down, a response has been issued by the KP government’s spokesperson.
In a statement, Fraz Mughal, spokesperson for the Chief Minister of KP, said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government represents the vision of PTI’s founder, and Ali Amin Gandapur will resign the moment Imran Khan formally directs him to do so.
He further stated that no official confirmation has been received through credible channels regarding Imran Khan’s instruction, and reminded that Gandapur has repeatedly affirmed that the KP government is a trust entrusted to him by the PTI founder.
Mughal highlighted the legal limitations, noting, “Despite being Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur is unable to meet his leader in Adiala Jail. Even with court orders in place, the authorities are not upholding constitutional and legal rights.”
The spokesperson also emphasized Gandapur’s efforts in restoring law and order in the province, particularly through the initiation of tribal jirgas aimed at combating terrorism. “Just yesterday, a jirga of tribal elders was held at the Chief Minister House, and a grand tribal consultative jirga will soon be formed,” he added.

The controversy stems from a statement attributed to Imran Khan, in which he reportedly said Ali Amin Gandapur should resign if he cannot restore peace in KP. According to sources, Imran Khan also remarked that if Gandapur cannot resolve the province’s governance issues, someone else should be given a chance.
