KP govt introduces new vehicle registration system

Citizens will be able to retain their registration number

ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has launched a new vehicle registration system under which the vehicle number will now belong to the citizen rather than the vehicle itself.

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa formally inaugurated the Personalized Registration Mark System (PRM). Under this system, even if a vehicle is sold, the original registration number will remain with the seller.

According to excise officials, the new digital registration system will help eliminate fake and cloned number plates. It will also make the vehicle registration process faster, more transparent, and free from corruption.

During the briefing, officials explained that under the PRM system, a citizen will own a vehicle number just as they own their CNIC or mobile number.

They further stated that when a vehicle is sold, the old number will remain with the owner without any additional fee, while the buyer will have to apply for a new number. Citizens will be able to retain their registration number for up to three years without using it on any vehicle.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister also announced a martyr package for the Excise Department for anti-drug operations, similar to the package given to police personnel.

He added that a strict crackdown will be launched against drug dealers, with special focus on major networks, and the province will continue its zero-tolerance policy to make KP drug-free.
