Peshawar: KP Government Withdraws Tobacco Tax Hike Amid Political Pressure, The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has reversed its recent decision to hike taxes on tobacco, while keeping the tax rate on snuff unchanged.
Facing significant political pressure, the provincial administration has opted to fully withdraw the proposed increase in tobacco taxes. Previously, the budget for the new fiscal year had set the tax on Virginia tobacco at Rs.50 per kg and other types at Rs.30 per kg.

The decision to rescind the tax hike follows intense lobbying from key figures, including Asad Qaiser and Atif Khan. The Provincial Finance Amendment Bill, which will be introduced in the Provincial Assembly today, reflects this reversal.
Despite the rollback on tobacco taxes, the tax rates on snuff remain as they were.
