KP CM Afridi Protests “Intimidating” Treatment During Punjab Visit

The KP CM urged the Punjab government to prevent any recurrence of such conduct, both administrative and digital, and ensure accountability where necessary.

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has lodged a formal protest with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz over what he described as “discourteous, hostile, and protocol-violating” treatment during his recent visit to Punjab.

In a letter, Afridi said his December 26 visit to Lahore, including a scheduled Punjab Assembly tour, was marred by altercations between his delegation and security officials. He condemned the excessive security measures, sweeping detentions, and public area closures, calling them intimidating rather than protective.

Afridi also expressed concern over a coordinated social media campaign allegedly linking him to narcotics, amplified through accounts perceived to be aligned with Punjab authorities. He warned that such actions undermine federal harmony, erode public trust, and set a dangerous precedent against constitutional officeholders.

The KP CM urged the Punjab government to prevent any recurrence of such conduct, both administrative and digital, and ensure accountability where necessary.
