Meeting chaired by CM Gandapur focuses on security measures and regulatory oversight in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
PESHAWAR: A recent Provincial Apex Committee meeting chaired by Chief Minister (CM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur aimed to implement a province-wide complete ban fireworks in weddings and other ceremonies.
During the meeting, the CM discussed various issues pertaining to security, governance, and regulatory oversight within the province.
The meeting unanimously decided to enforce a complete ban on fireworks during weddings and other ceremonies across KP. The aim is to ensure “public safety” and risk mitigation during weddings and other celebrations.
Besides ban on fireworks, the meeting participants agreed to properly register 3,571 schools within the province. This way the provincial govement can ensure proper educational infrastructure and accessibility for the students.
The meeting also discussed a crackdown on illegal subscriber identity module (SIM) cards. Over 9 million such SIMs will be blocked as a result. Unregistered SIMs pose a national security threat as unregistered SIMs have been used to carry out terrorist attacks in past. The move will help combat telecommunications-related crimes and ensure regulatory compliance.
The meeting participants also agreed to continue profiling Afghan refugees with valid citizen cards, following the return of over 300,000 refugees to Afghanistan. The measure is intended to address migration issues and uphold security along the Pakistan-Afghan border.
To address cross-border smuggling concerns, the meeting agreed to raise the issue of non-custom paid vehicles with the federal government.

The meeting also decided to empower the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) to confront extortion groups in an attempt to eradicate criminal networks.
The meeting was attended by the Corps Commander and other high-ranking civil and military officials.
