Khawaja Shines on BBL Return as Captain

Usman Khawaja Stars in BBL Comeback for Brisbane

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Former Australian batter Usman Khawaja made a strong return to franchise cricket, delivering a match-winning performance for Brisbane Heat in his first Big Bash League appearance of the season. The outing came shortly after his emotional farewell to international cricket following the Ashes series.

Leading the side as captain, Khawaja guided Brisbane to a convincing seven-wicket win over Sydney Thunder while chasing 181. The Heat comfortably reached the target at 183 for 3 in just under 17 overs.

Khawaja anchored the chase with a fluent 78 off 48 balls, smashing seven boundaries and three sixes with an impressive strike rate of 162.50. On the other side, Sydney Thunder skipper David Warner played a fighting knock of 82 from 56 deliveries, hitting eight fours and three sixes, but his effort was not enough to change the outcome. Khawaja was deservedly named player of the match.

Khawaja enjoyed a distinguished international career, scoring 6,229 runs in 88 Test matches with 16 centuries and 28 half-centuries. In ODIs, he amassed 1,554 runs in 40 games, while also featuring in nine T20Is, where he scored 241 runs.
