Rawalpindi/Islamabad_Bushra Bibi, the former first lady, met her husband (PTI chief) in Attock jail on Thursday. This was their first encounter since his arrest on August 5 in relation to the Toshakhana case.

Accompanied by the legal representatives of the former prime minister, Bushra Bibi arrived at Attock jail, where she was granted permission to meet her husband. The meeting between the two lasted approximately one hour and was conducted privately, excluding the presence of Bushra Bibi’s legal team.

However, Naeem Panjotha, Sher Afzal Marwat, and Ali Ijaz Buttar, the lawyers, were not granted access to the incarcerated former prime minister, who was ousted from power through a vote of no-confidence in April last year.

According to Panjotha, permission for Bushra Bibi’s meeting with the PTI chief was obtained from the Islamabad High Court (IHC). Despite presenting court orders, the legal team was unable to secure permission to meet the PTI chairman and had to remain outside the jail premises.

The former prime minister was apprehended from his residence in Zaman Park, Lahore, following his conviction in the Toshakhana case.

Additional and Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar, in his verdict, affirmed the charges of misdeclaring assets against the PTI chairman. The judge sentenced the former PM to three years in prison, issued arrest warrants, and imposed a fine of Rs100,000.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday demanded the relocation of party chairman Imran Khan from Attock Jail to Adiala Jail, citing concerns over his health and safety.

In a meeting of the PTI core committee, the primary focus was on the well-being of the party chairman, who is currently imprisoned in Attock Jail. The committee expressed unease regarding the delay in allowing the former prime minister to receive food and water from home. As a response to this situation, the committee urged for an immediate transfer of Khan from Attock Jail to Adiala Jail.

Highlighting the significance of maintaining his health, the core committee stressed that adhering to prison regulations is vital. According to the prison manual, the right to safe and suitable food is a fundamental privilege for Mr Khan.

In light of these concerns, the committee called for swift action, emphasizing that the court should promptly address the matter and facilitate his ability to order food and water from home.

Pronouncing a reserved verdict in the 190 million pounds corruption case relating to Al-Qadir Trust, an accountability court (AC) in Islamabad on Thursday rejected the bail application filed by former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan due to non-perusal of the case,

The decision paved the way for the arrest of PTI chairman in the case.

The court also barred the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from arresting Imran’s wife Bushra Bibi.

Earlier, the court reserved its verdict in the case. Judge Muhammad Bashir, who heard the case, asked whether arrest warrants for Bushra Bibi had been issued. “Where is the investigation officer (IO) in the case? What is the status of the case right now: is it at the inquiry or investigation stage?” he questioned.

Khawaja Haris, PTI chief’s lawyer, replied that the case was at the investigation stage.

IO Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi told the court that right now there was no order to arrest the former prime minister.

Abbasi went on to say that if a suspect had been arrested in one case, it did not mean he could not be arrested in the other.

Haris said that the case was being heard at the time when the suspect was already serving three-year prison term in the Toshakhana reference.

Imran’s lawyer, on the occasion, filed an application in the court seeking exemption for his client from appearances in both Toshakhana and Al-Qadir Trust cases. “It is my request to the court to adjourn the case’s hearing,” Haris said.

In order to support his arguments for bail for his client, he cited different cases of the Supreme Court (SC) and the Lahore High Court (LHC).

IO Abbasi opposed the bail application filed by the PTI chairman.

He was of the view that exemption from court appearance could only be sought for a day and that, too, on medical grounds. “If a man is serving a three-year jail term, does it mean that the court will wait for him until his imprisonment is over?” he asked.
