Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga dies at age 80.
Kenya mourns the loss of a political giant whose fight for democracy shaped the nation for generations.
Kenyan – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga has died at the age of 80. He passed away while in India for medical treatment. According to hospital officials, he suffered a heart attack.
The former prime minister was on a morning walk with his family when he collapsed. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but could not be saved. Odinga was a giant in Kenyan politics. His death creates a major gap in the country’s leadership ahead of the next election.
News of his passing brought sadness across Kenya. President William Ruto visited the Odinga family home. Hundreds of grieving supporters also gathered there to pay their respects.
Odinga was born into a political family. He spent much of his life in politics, first as an activist. He was jailed for years for standing up to the government. After his release, he served in parliament and ran for president five times. He claimed he was cheated in several of those races. After a disputed election in 2007, protests led to widespread violence in Kenya.
Despite these conflicts, Odinga was also a force for positive change. His activism helped bring multi-party democracy and a new constitution to Kenya. His supporters lovingly called him “Baba,” which means “father.” He was known for his mysterious political moves, earning him the nickname “Agwambo.”
Leaders from Kenya and around the world are sharing their sorrow. They remember him as a champion for democracy and a key figure for Africa. Former President Uhuru Kenyatta said Odinga was “a father to the nation.” The Indian Prime Minister called him a cherished friend. His legacy as a fighter for the people will be remembered for generations.
