Karachi Reports First Dengue Death of 2025 in Sindh
So far, 345 dengue cases have been reported across Sindh this year, with the majority from Karachi.
KARACHI – A 48-year-old woman from Karachi’s eastern district has become Sindh’s first dengue fatality of 2025, health officials confirmed on Saturday.
According to the Sindh Health Department, the woman was admitted to Aga Khan University Hospital on July 23 after exhibiting symptoms of dengue fever. Lab tests later confirmed she was infected with the mosquito-borne viral disease.
Officials revealed that the patient also had underlying health conditions, including diabetes and a urinary tract infection (UTI), which likely worsened the effects of the virus. She succumbed to dengue-related complications on Thursday.
So far, 345 dengue cases have been reported across Sindh this year, with the majority from Karachi. The health department has urged the public to take preventive measures, such as avoiding stagnant water, using mosquito repellents, and ensuring regular fumigation in homes and public spaces.
Dengue fever, transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, tends to peak during Pakistan’s monsoon season, placing additional strain on the country’s healthcare system.
