KARACHI: Dumper Crushes Motorcyclist Near Malir Court; Driver Blames Brake Failure

KARACHI – A tragic accident occurred near Malir Court on the National Highway, where a speeding dumper crushed a motorcycle, killing the rider on the spot.

According to police officials, the victim’s body was shifted to Jinnah Hospital for legal formalities. Initial investigations revealed that the dumper’s brakes failed and the steering malfunctioned, leading to the deadly collision.

The driver, identified as Ejaz, initially fled the scene but was later apprehended and taken to the Malir City police station. In his statement, he admitted to dozing off while driving from Sohrab Goth to Qayyumabad. It was further revealed that Ejaz’s driving license had expired at the time of the incident.

The dumper has been impounded, and a case has been registered at the Malir City police station under the state’s complaint. The crash completely destroyed one motorcycle and partially damaged another.

Ejaz also disclosed to the police that he works 12-hour shifts and spends the remaining time sleeping, which may have contributed to his fatigue behind the wheel.

This is the second such incident involving a dumper in Karachi recently. Earlier, another dumper carrying construction debris rammed into a bungalow near Defence Morr while en route to Punjab Colony.

The impact severely damaged the boundary wall of the house. Both the dumper driver and the cleaner sustained injuries and were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. In that case as well, the driver blamed brake failure for the accident. Traffic police confirmed that the vehicle has been taken into custody.
