K-P faces deadly floods, rescue workers race to save lives
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa struggles with deadly floods as rescue operations intensify and more heavy rainfall is expected.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa – (Special – Correspondent / Web Desk) – Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) is facing one of the deadliest monsoon seasons in recent years, with relentless rains, flash floods, and landslides claiming hundreds of lives. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), at least 657 people, including women and children, have died nationwide since late June. K-P has suffered the highest losses, recording 390 deaths and hundreds of damaged homes.
Rescue 1122 teams have been deployed to key areas such as Nishtarabad, Gulbahar, and Hayatabad. With more than 70 personnel, eight ambulances, disaster response vehicles, and dewatering pumps, these teams are working tirelessly to clear flooded streets, assist stranded vehicles, and evacuate residents from high-risk zones.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that 336 houses in K-P have been affected, with many partially or completely destroyed. Landslides have disrupted travel on vital routes, including the Grand Trunk (GT) Road, further complicating relief work. In Nowshera, a tragic roof collapse caused by stormy downpours claimed two lives, while floods in Swabi and Lower Dir forced families to flee for safety.
Public banned from visiting tourist spots in KP amid flood threat
The NDMA has issued a weather advisory forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall across Punjab, Sindh, and K-P until August 20. Cities such as Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi, and Hyderabad are expected to experience heavy downpours.
To support affected communities, the Ministry of Health has dispatched tents, medicines, blankets, and essential supplies. Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal confirmed that coordination with provincial authorities remains ongoing to ensure swift aid delivery.
As the monsoon continues, authorities are urging citizens to remain cautious, avoid flood-prone areas, and follow official advisories for safety.
