Judiciary have ‘Dual standards’: PM Shehbaz
<<PTI govt despite many ‘wrongdoings’No one took notice>>
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday accused the judiciary of having “double standards” with their treatment of different political parties.
Hitting out at the judiciary for not taking suo motu notices of the many “wrongdoings” of former prime minister Imran Khan’s government,
Addressing a session of the National Assembly (NA), Shehbaz said that while he respected courts, he was also an elected representative and questioned “when the truth would be spoken, if not today.”
His comments were also in response to SC’s court’s decision to reject coalition government’s petition seeking formation of a full court to hear case.
PM expressed concerns about lack of equality in provision of justice.
“I respect the judiciary but one has to speak truth on the floor of the National Assembly. The judiciary cannot treat me differently from someone else,” he said.
He also spoke about PTI’s foreign funding case stating that even after eight years, case has been left unannounced.
“Did anyone take suo motu notice of that case over the last eight years?” PM Shehbaz questioned.
“I ask that there was a time when a former chief justice took suo moto [notices] day and night … when the courts summon then I think we should go with great respect … but if you have to decide then it should be on the basis of truth and justice. It can’t happen that you treat me one way and treat someone else differently.”“PTI government provided sugar subsidies worth billions of rupees during its term and made the worst decisions during its tenure, struck deals with IMF and then ruined them, and brought Pakistan to the verge of default. But did anyone take notice of all this?”
