Judicial Magistrate Acquits Rana Sanaullah in 2020 Gujranwala Rally Case

Gujranwala – A judicial magistrate on Wednesday acquitted Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, in a case related to the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) rally held in Gujranwala in October 2020.

The case accused the politician of attempting to run over police personnel and removing a container during the rally organized by the then opposition alliance. The charges were filed during the tenure of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

Judicial Magistrate Sidrah Gill Nawaz, while hearing the case at the Satellite Town police station, stated that the prosecution had failed to prove the accusation against Sanaullah.

In December of the previous year, the judicial magistrate had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for the PML-N leader due to his repeated absence from court proceedings.

The First Information Report (FIR) against Sanaullah included provisions under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), including Sections 149, 147, 186, 353, and 324.

It is noteworthy that other accused individuals in the case, such as Salman Khalid Butt, Imran Khalid, and former federal minister Khurram Dastgir of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), have already been acquitted.

The police had previously delayed submitting the challan in the case, and the report they provided was rejected by the court, which subsequently summoned Sanaullah.
