– JI Demands Judicial Commission to Probe Rigging in 2024 Elections
LAHORE: In a pressing appeal, Jamaat-e-Islami has called on the Supreme Court of Pakistan to establish a judicial commission for the upcoming 2024 elections. Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman emphasized the necessity for comprehensive acceptance of the Supreme Court’s decisions regarding specific seats.
During a press conference in Lahore, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman highlighted concerns over electoral integrity, citing Nawaz Sharif’s need for an additional 70,000 votes to secure a win. He questioned the Election Commission’s status post-Supreme Court ruling and criticized governance in Sindh province.
“We are witnessing a movement for people’s rights spreading across Pakistan, with nationwide protests planned for tomorrow. The middle class is being systematically destroyed,” he stated.
Rehman urged for legislative action in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directives, viewing the court’s decision as a “breath of fresh air.” He pointed out the controversial allocation of 15 National Assembly seats to MQM from Karachi.
Expressing further concerns, he mentioned the impending rise in petrol prices and criticized the government for not reducing expenses as per IMF guidelines. “They are providing relief for those using up to 200 units of electricity, but what about those using 201 units?” Rehman questioned.
