JCP Approves Appointment of 10 Additional Judges to Peshawar High Court
Debate Erupts Over Appointment of Outsider as IHC Chief Justice

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has approved the appointment of 10 additional judges to the Peshawar High Court (PHC) during a meeting chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi. Initially, 40 names were under consideration for nine vacant positions, but the commission ultimately approved 10 candidates.
The appointed judges include District and Sessions Judges Farah Jamshed, Inamullah, Qazi Jawad, Mudassar Amir, Abdul Fayaz, Salahuddin, Sadiq Ali, Tariq Afridi, Sabit Ali, and Aurangzeb Khan. Despite objections from PTI members, including Barrister Gohar and Ali Zafar, the appointments were approved by a majority vote.
The decision follows a broader judicial debate over high court judge appointments, with concerns raised by Islamabad High Court judges over the selection of an outsider as the next IHC chief justice.
