Japan’s Ambassador Meets Finance Minister to Discuss Bilateral Cooperation

Pakistan & Japan Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation in Meeting Between Finance Minister and Japanese Ambassador.

Islamabad: The Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan Mitsuhiro Wada met with Muhammad Aurangzeb, the Minister for Finance and Revenue, to discuss matters of mutual interest and cooperation between the two nations.

During the meeting, Ambassador Wada extended his congratulations to Minister Aurangzeb on assuming office and commended the Government’s commitment to implementing reforms aimed at achieving macroeconomic stability and sustainability. Minister Aurangzeb reiterated the Government’s dedication to increasing the tax to GDP ratio, emphasizing the importance of end-to-end digitization to expand the tax base and enhance transparency in the tax system.

Furthermore, Minister Aurangzeb briefed Ambassador Wada on the ongoing energy sector reforms, highlighting the Government’s efforts to address governance issues in distribution companies through private participation and eventual privatization, while also focusing on reducing costs in the sector.

Ambassador Wada acknowledged the Government’s commitment to prudent fiscal policies and structural reforms and expressed Japan’s continued support for Pakistan’s economic revival initiatives. He also raised concerns regarding challenges faced by Japanese automakers in Pakistan.

Minister Aurangzeb informed Ambassador Wada about the robust growth demonstrated by the agriculture and IT sectors and reiterated the Government’s commitment to supporting these sectors to become growth leaders.

Both sides expressed their desire to further enhance bilateral cooperation and pledged to work together towards achieving common goals for the benefit of both nations. The meeting concluded on a positive note, highlighting the strong partnership and friendship between Pakistan and Japan.
