Jamaat-e-Islami Announces Islamabad Sit-in against Rising Taxes and Utility Costs

“People are suffering under the burden of exorbitant electricity bills and the recent hikes in gas and petrol prices,” remarked Hafiz Naeemur Rahman.

LAHORE: Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeemur Rahman declared a nationwide protest against soaring taxes, expensive electricity, and gas prices in Islamabad. In a press conference at Mansoora Lahore,, he highlighted the severe economic crisis gripping the nation, stressing that escalating utility bills have pushed citizens to extreme measures, including selling jewelry to cover costs.

“People are suffering under the burden of exorbitant electricity bills and the recent hikes in gas and petrol prices,” remarked Hafiz Naeemur Rahman. He announced plans for a sit-in protest in Islamabad on July 12, aimed at compelling the government to alleviate inflationary pressures and revise oppressive taxation policies. He hinted at the possibility of a nationwide strike to amplify their demands.

Criticizing the government’s economic policies, Hafiz Naeemur Rahman accused it of bowing to IMF directives, resulting in increased taxes despite recent price hikes on essential fuels. He condemned the disparity where privileged individuals, including generals, military officers, and judges, enjoy free petrol and electricity while the middle and lower classes bear the brunt of financial burdens.

“The salaried class, earning between two to three lakh rupees, is particularly distressed over impending tax increments,” asserted Amir Jamaat-e-Islami. He criticized the government for allegedly favoring landlords and wealthy elites over ordinary citizens struggling to make ends meet.

In his closing remarks, Hafiz Naeemur Rahman accused the government of lacking sensitivity to public hardships, describing its policies as indicative of mental subjugation and subservience to international financial institutions.

The announcement sets the stage for heightened political tensions as Jamaat-e-Islami prepares to mobilize nationwide support against economic hardships and perceived injustices in taxation policies.
