Russia-(Sports Reporter): Jack Draper, seeded No. 7, secured his first ATP 500 title with a straight-sets victory over Russia’s Karen Khachanov, winning 6-4, 7-5 in the Erste Bank Open final in Vienna, Austria.
In the second set, Draper initially led 4-0 before Khachanov staged a comeback, taking five games in a row. Draper regained momentum by leveling the score at 5-5, breaking Khachanov’s serve in the 11th game, and ultimately overcoming a 15-40 deficit to seal the win in the 12th game. Throughout the match, Draper recorded 30 winners to Khachanov’s 16 and excelled at the net, winning 14 of 16 points compared to Khachanov’s 8 of 14.
This victory marks Draper’s second tour win, following his first in Stuttgart, Germany, in June. Khachanov was aiming for his second title in October, having won in Almaty, Kazakhstan, earlier in the month.
Swiss Indoors Basel
At the Swiss Indoors Basel, French player Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard made history as the lowest-ranked champion since the event became a tour-level tournament, defeating sixth seed Ben Shelton 6-4, 7-6 (4).
The second set remained on serve until the ninth point in the tiebreak, where Mpetshi Perricard seized control. He finished the match with 22 aces, while Shelton delivered 10, and Mpetshi Perricard won 84.6% of his first-serve points (33 out of 39).
Ranked No. 50 at the start of the week, the 21-year-old Mpetshi Perricard had previously claimed his first ATP title in May at the Lyon Open in France.
