Israeli attacks and hunger kill 62,000 Palestinians in Gaza

Over 62,000 killed in Gaza as war, hunger, and displacement leave families in deep crisis.

Israel-Gaza (Special Correspondent/Web Desk)- Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza has left a devastating toll, with more than 62,000 Palestinians killed since the conflict began nearly two years ago, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Relentless bombardments, combined with forced starvation, have turned Gaza’s largest urban centre into ruins.

Israeli forces continue to intensify attacks in Gaza City, using heavy artillery, drones, and fighter jets to destroy residential neighbourhoods. On Monday alone, at least 30 Palestinians were killed, including 14 who died while searching for food aid. Among the victims was journalist Islam al-Koumi, killed in an airstrike on the al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Displacement remains widespread. Families are fleeing bombed-out homes, while many are trapped by poverty or fear of further attacks. One displaced resident, Bilal Abu Sitta, explained the impossibility of leaving: “I need nearly $900 to move—I don’t even have a dollar.”

Healthcare facilities have also been hit, worsening the crisis for those sheltering in damaged homes, tents, or overcrowded classrooms. Aid agencies warn that starvation is now being used as a weapon of war.

Schools closed until August 25 due to heavy rains and deadly floods in Northern Pakistan

In the past 24 hours alone, five more Palestinians—including two children—died from malnutrition. The Health Ministry reports 263 starvation-related deaths so far, among them 112 children. The World Food Programme (WFP) warns that more than 320,000 children under five are now at risk of severe malnutrition.

Instead of attending school, Gaza’s children spend their days queuing for food, searching for water, and living in cramped shelters. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) describes the situation as one of the worst humanitarian disasters in recent memory.

Amid the destruction, there is a faint sign of hope. Hamas has reportedly accepted a ceasefire proposal brokered by Qatar and Egypt. The plan includes a 60-day truce, the release of half the Israeli captives in Gaza, and the freeing of an unspecified number of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
