GAZA: Israel has approved a ceasefire deal with Hamas to end the 15-month war, which has caused significant destruction and loss of life in Gaza.
The agreement, set to begin on Sunday, involves the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Despite the approval, Israeli airstrikes continued on Gaza ahead of the ceasefire, killing at least five people.
The ceasefire deal is a three-stage process, with the first phase seeing the release of 33 Israeli hostages and nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. The deal is facing opposition from hard-line members of Israel’s government, with some threatening to resign if the ceasefire is implemented.
