PTI workers set cloth container on fire at Lahore’s Kalma Chowk

Islamabad_PTI has denied involvement in the recent incidents of violence amid the protests against the arrest of its chairman, Imran Khan, saying that the statement by Inter-services Public Relations (ISPR) lacked the realisation of situation on the ground.

PTI’s rebuttal comes a day after the hard-hitting statement by the military’s media wing, where it termed May 9, the day clashes and protests ensued, a “black chapter in history”.

According to details, the PTI workers, who are protesting in Lahore and other parts of the country against PTI chief Imran Khan arrest, stopped a cloth container under Kalma Chowk Bridge and set it on fire.

A heavy contingent of police and law enforcement agencies reached the spot after the incident. Police used tear gas to disperse the protesters while the PTI workers pelted stones at the police.

The situation remained tense in the area after clashes erupted between PTI workers and police. Meanwhile, sources informed that the local authorities have blocked all kind of traffic at the Kalma Chowk to avoid further damage to public and private property.

Violent clashes broke out across Pakistan after former premier and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan was arrested by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Al-Qadir Trust case on Tuesday.

The PTI chief was taken into custody by Rangers personnel from the premises of Islamabad High Court where the former premier had gone to seek bail in multiple cases registered against him.
