Islamabad Motorways Partially Closed Amid Protests, Lane Restrictions
Motorways around Islamabad face closures and lane restrictions due to protests and road work, affecting daily commuters and city access.
PTI Protest – (Web Desk) – As of Friday, February 13, 2026 (7:02 PM PKT), the motorway status around Islamabad is as follows: M-1 (Peshawar to Islamabad): Partially Closed.
The section from Swabi Interchange (KM 420) to Burhan Interchange (KM 387) is closed in both directions due to public protests. Diversions are in place at these points.
M-2 (Islamabad to Lahore): Open but with local restrictions. While the main route is clear of weather-related issues, several specific locations have lane closures for road work:
What’s going on in the Capital City, Islamabad? All roads are closed. You are stuck for hours; at a distance of 100 meters, you have to pass through two security checkpoints. Park Road’s underpass is causing an unprecedented traffic jam. Any guess who is running this city? pic.twitter.com/Xmrek0Gg7H

Balkasar (KM 270–275 and KM 260–265) and Bhatti Gujjar (KM 259–264) have Northbound lane closures. Salt Range (KM 226) has a lane closed due to a vehicle breakdown.
Islamabad Red Zone Sealed Amid PTI Protest
