Chief Justice Farooq suggested granting permission for the rally in an open space and criticized the indefinite postponement citing various excuses.
Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court, Aamer Farooq, has directed the Chief Commissioner to consult with PTI representatives to find a permanent solution for the party’s rally issue. Highlighting the expected attendance of 40,000-50,000 people and the speeches that would be delivered, he suggested that the rally posed no significant threat.
The Islamabad High Court was hearing PTI leader Aamir Mughal’s petition against the Chief Commissioner’s notification suspending the NOC for the PTI rally. PTI’s lawyer, Shoaib Shaheen Advocate, requested permission for the rally on July 27. Chief Justice Aamer Farooq questioned the prolonged delay, noting that the rally issue had been ongoing since February. He pointed out the conflicting decisions where the Deputy Commissioner had granted permission, but the Chief Commissioner had suspended it.
The Acting Deputy Commissioner informed the court that the NOC was suspended, not canceled, and that PTI could be allowed to hold the rally after the 40th day of Muharram. In response, PTI filed a contempt of court petition against the suspension.
