Islamabad High Court Grants Bail to Bushra Bibi in Toshakhana Case

Islamabad-(Mudassar Iqbal): The Islamabad High Court has granted bail to Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case, citing similarities with the precedent set in Justice Qazi Faiz Isa’s case.

During the hearing, Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb drew comparisons between the two cases, pointing out how, in the Isa case, a husband was held accountable for his wife’s actions.

Bushra Bibi’s bail application was approved by the court, with her release ordered upon submitting a one-million-rupee surety.

Justice Aurangzeb questioned why the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party was being implicated if Bushra Bibi had not submitted the gifts in question. He noted similarities to the Isa case, where the husband was similarly held responsible for his spouse’s actions.

FIA prosecutor Umeer Majeed argued that any gifts received by state officials must be declared and handed over to the state, as they remain government property unless legally purchased. Justice Aurangzeb referred to international practices, stating that many world leaders retain gifts under established rules.

The court stressed the need for an accurate evaluation of such gifts and suggested that proper auctions should be conducted for their valuation.

Justice Aurangzeb also shared his observations from a museum in Azerbaijan, where gifts received by former leaders were displayed with their portraits.
