ISLAMABAD: In a thrilling match held on Sunday at the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Islamabad Disabled Cricket Team emerged victorious against the FATA Disabled Cricket Team at the F11-2 Cricket Ground. The match was played under the auspices of the Pakistan Physically Disabled Cricket Association (PPDCA).
Batting first, Islamabad set a challenging target of 146 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted overs. Nauman Sadaqat played a remarkable knock of 145 runs, notching up a remarkable individual score. Waqif Shah contributed with an unbeaten 25 runs, further solidifying the team’s total.
In response, FATA struggled to chase down the target, managing to score 130 runs in 19 overs. Despite valiant efforts from Arbab Saqib (21 runs), Aul Muhammad (28 runs), Zahoor (23 runs), and Sher Ali (20 runs), the team fell short of the required runs.
Zaber and Bilal shone with the ball for Islamabad, claiming three wickets each. Waqif Shah and Raja Naeem also chipped in with two wickets apiece, contributing to Islamabad’s victory.
In a parallel match held at the Guwahati Cricket Stadium, the Peshawar Disabled Cricket Team emerged triumphant over the Abbottabad Disabled Cricket Team, winning by a margin of 26 runs. The Peshawar team managed to score 150 runs before being dismissed.
Following the matches, Mohammad Tahir, Regional Head of PPDCA, distributed prizes to the players, recognizing their sportsmanship and spirit. A special cake-cutting ceremony was also held to mark the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
In a closing message to the players, Regional Head Muhammad Tahir conveyed the exciting news that PPDCA will soon announce the dates for the National Championship and Pentangular Cup. He also expressed gratitude to the journalists who covered the event.
