Ishaq Dar Assures Transparent and Inclusive Privatization Process

This proactive stance by Dar signals a robust approach to both economic policy and international humanitarian advocacy amidst ongoing global challenges.

Islamabad: Ishaq Dar Assures Transparent and Inclusive Privatization Process. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparent privatization processes, assuring that all stakeholders will be consulted.

Addressing the Senate, Dar emphasized his role in ensuring transparency as the head of CCOP (Cabinet Committee on Privatization).

Highlighting the staggering losses incurred by Pakistan Steel Mills, Dar questioned the nation’s ability to sustain such financial burdens.

He pointed out the unresolved issue of PTCL’s privatization, which saw three offers during the Musharraf era but remained unresolved across subsequent governments, including PTI’s tenure.

Efforts are underway to resolve the PTCL asset transfer, with only 30 out of 150 assets yet to be handed over. Etisalat, the buyer, has independently valued these assets at $263 million, a figure Dar criticized as undervalued.

Dar also underscored Pakistan’s advocacy for Gaza at international forums, including the OIC and a recent conference in Amman. Pakistan’s humanitarian aid efforts to Palestine, including nine consignments, reflect its stance against Israeli actions, with calls for war crimes to be pursued against Israel gaining momentum.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vocal support for Palestine at SCO meetings was noted, alongside initiatives to aid medical students in Gaza. Dar instructed the PMDC to facilitate Palestinian students, ensuring they can complete their medical education.
