The prime minister was told in the meeting that more than 60 police personnel were injured due to stone pelting by PTI workers at Zaman Park in Lahore.

During the meeting, videos of PTI workers involved in setting fire to vehicles and other incidents were shown.PM Sharif said the person hiding in his “bunker of Zaman Park” is taking the law in his hands.“The law will take its own course,” the PM stressed. The meeting was attended by senior ministers and officials from the Ministry of Interior. Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah participated in the meeting through a video link.

Despite petrol bombs and severe stone pelting, the police showed restraint.

In the meeting, the prime minister was also informed about the resistance of Gilgit-Baltistan police deployed at Zaman Park. All the law enforcement agencies have to ensure compliance with the law and state writ, he directed.Without naming him, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif criticized Imran Khan, saying a person considers himself above the law.“He can go to rallies, but not to court.”

Carry on struggle’ even if killed or arrested, Imran asks supporters ,

Khan resists arrest under Pakistan’s ‘law of the jungle’ 2,carry on struggle’ even if killed or arrested, Imran asks supporters PTI chairman’s video message was released on social media as police arrived at his Lahore residence to arrest the former prime minister. Party workers reportedly hurled stones at police personnel as they baton-charged crowds of supporters gathered outside Zaman Park in anticipation of his arrest.

Addressing his supporters in the video, Imran said that the authorities believe his arrest would lead to the nation’s indifference.

“My fellow Pakistanis, the police are outside waiting to arrest me. They believe that if Imran Khan is put in jail, the nation will fall asleep. You must prove them wrong. You must show that this nation is alive and kicking,” he said. This nation is the Ummah of the Holy Prophet Mohammad (Peace be upon him) and it was formed on the principles and slogan of La illaha Illalah. You must step out and fight for your rights and true freedom,” he said. Imran Khan’s angry supporters fought off riot police attempting to arrest the former Pakistan prime minister, but the 70-year-old opposition leader insists he is all about law and order.

“I believe in rule of law,” he told AFP in the inner sanctum of his Lahore compound Wednesday, as his party faithful showered pink petals on heaving crowds outside after police ended a near 24-hour siege of his residence. Police wanted to arrest Khan for skipping court dates to answer allegations he failed to declare gifts he received during his three-and-a-half-year turn in office –or the profits made from selling them.

But they were met by hundreds of his fanatical supporters — some wielding sticks and throwing stones — flying the green and crimson flags of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party as they waged running battles with officers. Khan was ousted from office in a no-confidence vote last April, sparking a year of political melodrama in Pakistan even as the nation was wracked by catastrophic monsoon floods and an economic death spiral. Since then he has faced a slew of charges making their way through the courts — all intended to keep him from contesting the next election, he says.

National Assembly elections are due no later than October, but Khan is adamant they should be held sooners “They want me in jail so that I cannot contest elections,” he told AFP, fiddling with turquoise prayer beads after an aide coiffed his hair. “There were so many cases, they would have just kept me in jail. And the whole idea was to miss the elections. “This abduction had nothing to do with rule of law,” he said.

“It’s the law of the jungle.”- Fanatical support -Inside Khan’s compound, the floor was littered with empty water bottles and piles of rubble. Some party supporters carried slingshots, others held large sticks, while yet more fought to keep out the throng summoned on Tuesday by PTI to confront the police. Khan was surrounded by a gaggle of close advisors as he scrolled through social media posts on a mobile phone. The former cricketing icon still limps from a November shooting, an assassination attempt he blamed on his successor Shahbaz Sharif. He invokes the danger to his life as one of the reasons he refuses to appear in court — reasons that seem to shift with each retelling.

“I don’t have an issue of going to court because none of the cases on me will stand,” he said. But he also says no case brought against him can be considered legitimate under the current government. The reason why this is happening is not because I broke any law,” he insists. Khan seems proud of the fanatical support he draws from his supporters — and how they held off the police. “They came with such force… Short of tanks, they had everything,” he said. Outside, those supporters vowed to protect him.

“They can’t arrest him,” boasted 28-year-old Rana Farhad, meandering between shouldering remains of roadblocks as small fires still flickered on the verge outside Khan’s extravagant home.

“The people will not allow it. We will give our lives but we won’t let it happen.”

“No one can even look at him while we’re with him, let alone arrest him,” added 19-year-old student Abdullah Abid, a PTI scarf covering his mouth. Imran’s appearance via video link, says Asad Umar PTI had pleaded the court to allow PTI Chairman Imran Khan to appear before the court via video link. If the hearing would not happen via video link, he would appear in person before the court.Mr Umar appeared on PVT TV” where he said PDM cannot compete with Imran Khan politically and Imran Khan’s life was in danger. “The PTI has prepared the strategy to appear before court tomorrow (Thursday),” he added.

Mr Umar said there was sufficient distance between Qaddafi stadium and Minar-e-Pakistan. There was no threat to PSL because of their political gathering and PTI’s supremo speech would end before the start of the match, he assured. He said that PTI was prepared for the elections and ticket holders’ names would be shortlisted after the meeting of the parliamentary board of the party. He said cases were being registered at a fast pace against the PTI chief and the party would apply for protective bail in Lahore high court (LHC) tomorrow (Thursday).

Journalists shed words on Imran Khan’s arrest fiasco,

Over a day ago, law enforcers and PTI workers came to a stalemate outside Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s residence at Zaman Park as the capital police, later joined by Rangers, moved to arrest Mr Khan in connection with the Toshakhana case.

Hundreds of PTI workers posed resistance to the police stepping forward intermittently to arrest Mr Khan. They pelted the police personnel with stones which was responded to by the police with water cannons, teargas shells, and baton-charging of the party activists.

The whole fiasco resulted in the injury of 54 police personnel, including DIG Operations Shehzad Nadeem Bukhari, officials said. On the other hand, the PTI also claimed in its social media posts that several party workers were injured in clashes with the police.

As the broadcast and social media are abuzz with the debate on law enforcers’ multiple attempts to arrest Mr Khan, journalists also took to social media to share their opinions over the matter.

Anchorperson Kamran Khan wrote on Twitter to term the fiasco as “Utterly Stupid”. He added that they turned Khan’s rock-bottom approval ratings a year ago all-time high today.
Journalist Mubashir Zaidi was of the opinion that Mr Khan had lost the opportunity to stand tall as a politician to come out and get arrested. He wrote, “Political leaders lead from the front not take human shields like Cult leaders”.Meanwhile journalist Atika Rehman tweeted, “Losing track of how many times the govt has attempted to arrest Imran Khan and failed…”.Journalist Sahar Habib Ghazi expressed her surprise over top journalists and analysts glossing over Mr Khan’s concerns of getting killed in the custody and wrote, “Pakistani politics is back to the 90s — divided, hateful, vengeful, run by vendettas & rhetoric, serving the most powerful who turned land, housing societies & private industries into an untaxed cash cow”.Another journalist Zarrar Khuhro saw the move as a delaying tactic as elections in Punjab and KP are drawing near. He wrote, “Clear grounds being manufactured for delaying elections. But the limits of state power – used excessively and without logical planning – have been clearly displayed and aired across the globe now. You cannot control the consequences of that. Hold elections regardless of who wins”.
